Whether you are looking into completing your first degree or you want to go back for another one, you should look into attending college online. In the early days of the internet, online education was something that a few people tried, but it was largely considered inferior to an in-person education.

That is largely because internet connectivity was not as good as it is today. Also, many people felt that they were not getting the same quality of education that they could have gotten if they had attended a physical university. That is all different now. Many of the top online colleges offer resources that are as advanced or more so than older, physical universities. Also, many of these online colleges have physical manifestations.

Online Colleges Attached to Physical Universities

Many online universities are actually affiliated with traditional universities. Sometimes they are related to each other, but it is more common for them to actually be the same university. For example, the University of Alabama might offer some of its classes online. These classes are offered to people who are enrolled in classes on campus as well as those who don’t attend classes in person. That offers many people the opportunities to attend a university without the major investment of time and energy. If you aren't located near the campus of the college you would like to attend, you would have to move to attend it. Otherwise, you would have to commute to and from campus, which can be very time-consuming as well as expensive.

If you attend one of the top online colleges, which are usually a division of a physical university, you can get your degree from just about any college in the world. You could live in London and get a degree from the University of Southern California, for example. Also, that would give you access to the same resources that most students receive on campus.

Many of the professors and teaching assistants who work on campus will also teach online classes. In many situations, the university will assign a professor an online section of a course as well as an on-campus section. So, they’ll be teaching a class in person while also teaching it online. That means you’ll likely be moving at the same pace as those on campus and using the same materials. The quality of the education is virtually indistinguishable. A small stigma still remains about online degrees, but a degree achieved online through a well-known university should erase any actual stigma.

Time and Money

You can save a pretty significant amount of money by attending one of the top online colleges. The costs associated with going to college can change depending on who you are and where you are in life. A single 18-year-old can work and go to college as long as he or she can afford the tuition or secure a loan. However, for those who might be older or have established families, it gets expensive very quickly. If you are going to relocate your family, you have to spend a considerable amount of money moving and settling in. If you choose not to relocate, you might need to invest in quality child care or after-school care. That can get incredibly expensive very quickly.

If you can't afford these options, but still want to continue your education, you can attend one of the top online colleges which will allow you to study and take classes whenever you can. You can even keep a full-time job while you go to school. You can log into your schoolwork while you’re cooking dinner, late at night after the kids have gone to sleep, or whenever you get fifteen spare minutes. That kind of flexibility is not only going to save you money, it will also save you time.

Even if you live close to a campus, it is going to take a decent amount of time to attend a class. Most big universities require you to park far away and walk to your class. When you add the commute and the walk to class to your regular class schedule, you could easily be spending several hours in your class every day. If you can’t afford to get away for that long, online universities are a wonderful option. In the 21st century, an online degree could be your ticket to a better job, or to just expand your base of knowledge.
